PoC SF Carnival # 8: Better Living through Hegemony

There's always been speculation about PoC hegemony in fandom, as if we wield some sort of pervasive power that compels other fans to see the skanky race issues OR ELSE. Or else, the Cabal will come after white fans because... apparently we are scary when traveling in packs? I don't even know. It is said that FoC take fandom and themselves too seriously, and many fans have taken it upon themselves to show us that they know from oppression. It's not even worth linking to, trust me.

To make the FoCing Cabal official with rules and everything to help control the fun and make our goal of oppressing nice white ladies even more efficient, I'd like to present the following rules, which have been approved by the Hive Mind [comm name redacted] and should not be redistributed without permission.



FoCing Cabal Rules - Fight Club Style:

First rule: You don't talk about FoC Cabal.
Second rule: You don't talk about FoC Cabal.
Third rule: If a FoC calls for reinforcements, even if the situation is determined not to be racist in nature, members must aid their fellow FoC.
Corollary to third rule: Members move up in Cabal rankings for usage of the following keywords1:
  • negro hegemony
  • coding
  • white privilege
  • co-opting/appropriation

Fourth rule: No less than two cabal members can determine an action as 'shenanigans'.
Fifth rule: FoC Cabal is SRS BSNS.
Sixth rule: Members must refer to all wanks discussions as 'imbroglios'.
Seventh rule: The endurance of such discussions can only be prolonged or shortened by the HNIC, honorary HNIC, or listed allies2.
Eighth rule: New members and allies not already in possession of a ghetto pass3 must earn it through a series of approved methods as voted by active members4.

i just realized that this set of rules doesnt include any of the vitally important references to 'ride and die' that are necessary. perhaps a new rule? Like, "cabal members must be ready to *ride and die* when the shenanigans are srsbidness" or something. you know?

My stomach hurts from laughing! At the risk of breaking rules 1 and 2, I have to say rules #7 & 8 are my favorites.

I needed that. Someone on FL posted about race and I started to twitch until I realized she was talking about NASCAR. Oh, fandom, what have you done to me?

However, what does "HNIC" stand for? Obviously the "H" is for hegemony, but I can't figure out the other letters. I'm killing brain cells by inhaling paint fumes, methinks.

You know, I had to put that in there lest someone be disappointed that we really aren't the arbiters of fandom when it comes to race.
